The anticipated top lot at Hake’s' November 18-19 sale is a Marvel X-Men #1 comic book published in September 1963 that contains the origin story and first appearance of the X-Men as well as Magneto. 

The Silver Age Marvel comic pairs a Stan Lee story with Jack Kirby’s cover and interior art and comes with an estimate of $100,000-$200,000. 

Other highlights include

  • an Amazing Spider-Man #1, released in March 1963 featuring the first appearance of J Jonah Jameson and The Chameleon, a Stan Lee, Jack Kirby, and Steve Ditko (cover art) collaboration that retells the origin story of Spider-Man (estimate: $20,000-$35,000)
  • a Skeleton and Roses original first printing poster designed by Stanley Mouse and Alton Kelley from the Family Dog series announcing a Grateful Dead show at San Francisco’s Avalon Ballroom (estimate: $75,000-$100,000)
  • a 1979 document with the handwritten signatures of Ohio Governor Jim Rhodes, Adjutant General Sylvester Del Corso, and 26 National Guardsmen beneath a formal apology for the May 4, 1970 shooting and killing of unarmed Kent State University students protesting the US invasion of Cambodia - it comes from Tom Grace, a student who was shot in his left foot at the protest (required starting bid: $10,000)
